Sandy MacDonald has joined the clinical team at Sage Behavioral Counseling bringing with him a wealth of experience helping teenagers and adults find solutions to their problems, enhance their relationships, build confidence, and achieve their goals.

Sandy has been working with people for 20 years in a variety of settings including wilderness intervention programs, therapeutic boarding schools, as well as outpatient treatment. Prior to coming to Sage, Sandy has worked as an individual and family therapist, supervised field teams, provided aftercare for teens and their families, and worked in program development and has been clinical director for a young adult transitional program, supporting older adolescents launch into college and healthy adulthood.

Sandy graduated with a Master’s degree in Social Work from Walla Walla College in 1999 and earned his clinical license in 2005. He was intensively trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) in 2007 and is level two trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Sandy is skillful working individually with clients, in psychoeducational and supportive groups, with families, couples, and parent coaching. Sandy weaves a supportive, empathetic approach with a focus on solutions.

Sandy exudes a zest for life and is frequently seeking out new challenges whether it is skiing down the slopes, kitesurfing, or riding his motorcycle. Sandy is also nurturing a new gentler hobby- fly fishing. While he grew up in Massachusetts, Sandy has been taking advantage of all the Northwest has to offer since he moved here 30 years ago.
